Last Friday morning 27 dogs were euthanized. Serena, Chico, Larry, and Bob among them. So many dogs are brought into the shelter every week. No one comes looking for them? Does anyone care what happens to the pup that one time you welcomed into your home? You could make it easier if you must re-home your pet. Contact a rescue group, giving them plenty of time to try and help you. Saying the dog has to be gone now is a no win situation........well maybe for you if you don't care what your pet's outcome will be. I guess you feel that you are entitled to dump your dog on the street to get infested with fleas, hit by a car or get parvo and die before anyone can even rescue them. Wouldn't it be nice if you could spend the effort to contact a rescue or cross post out for help. If you are dead set on talking your pet to the shelter please drop off your vet records, this will help the person who tries to rescue them. If they are spayed or neutered it will be another big plus. Or if you have given them heart worm prevention. The biggest plus being if your pet runs out of time at the shelter to contact you so you would be able to get them before the pet is put down. There is only so much room in the shelter folks and I guess there are more stupid, foolish, self-centered people out there than we care to acknowledge.
What is truly amazing is the generous people who spend their lives trying to help these abandoned pets. Spending their lives and hard earned money trying to help the ones that they can. It costs them hundreds of dollars to get them re-vacinated (no vet records) and spayed or neutered before trying to find a new home. If they test heart-worm positive, thats another $800.00.
